Is there a way to prevent specific TM entries from being applied as 100%, ICE Matches, or Fuzzy Matches during segmentation or pretranslation, or from being suggested in the TM Lookup window? Would locking TM entries achieve this result?
In general, you cannot exclude specific TM entries from being suggested or applied as 100%, ICE Match, or fuzzy matches during the Pretranslate Segments step.
All TM entries that are candidates will be applied or suggested, regardless of their status and whether they are locked. Locking a TM entry does not prevent it from being used or suggested.
The only difference is that when a TM entry is locked, it will not be updated with any changes made in the relevant segment. Locked TM entries cannot be modified during the translation process or when importing a TMX file into a TM, etc. We do not recommend locking TM entries.
If you have "bad" TM entries in your TM, you should either fix or delete them. If a TM contains only bad TM entries or is of lower quality, you should consider making it part of a TM group along with other TMs and apply a penalty to that TM. This will ensure that no 100% or ICE Matches can come from such a TM.
