In this sample scenario, we use one CSV file with columns of English and German. Each column contains text in a pair like this, and separated by a comma. CSV format can be created by Microsoft Excel or other similar applications.

Apply some settings in Studio
You first need to apply some settings to open the CSV file:
- Launch Studio.
- Click Tools > Options.
- In the Options dialog box, navigate to File Types > Comma Delimited Text (CSV) > Format.
- In the right pane, enable First line is column headings.
- In this scenario, we will leave the other settings as per the default to keep things simple.
- Click OK to close the dialog box.
Open the CSV files in Studio
Once the settings are applied, you can open the CSV in a new project:
- Create a new project by clicking File > New > Project.
- In the New Project wizard, proceed to the Project Languages page by clicking Next.
- Select English (United States) in Source Language, and German (Germany) in Target Languages. Then click Next.
- On the Project Files page, add the CSV file and click Next. Confirm that the Usage column is set to Translatable.
- On the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page, create a new translation memory for English (United States) to German (Germany) by clicking Create. Confirm that the Update column is enabled for the translation memory.
- Click Next several times to proceed to the Project Preparation page.
- On the Project Preparation page, select Prepare without project TM in Task Sequence list, then click Finish.
Once these steps are complete, you can create a new project for the CSV with a new translation memory. You can open the CSV in the Editor View as well as the usual projects.
Update translation memory
Using this project, you can update a translation memory with these bilingual files:
- In the Projects view, right click on the project, then click Batch Tasks > Finalize.
- In the Batch Processing wizard, click Next several times to proceed to the Settings page.
- On the Settings page, navigate to Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Batch Processing > Translation Memory Updates.
- Enable Not Translated in the right pane, then click Finish.
Once the wizard has finished the process, the translation memory contains those source and target text.
