Importing an alignment into Trados Studio fails with message "0/X alignment pairs imported into TM. Only duplicates or disconnected segments found"

Symptoms/Context

When you try to import an alignment into a translation memory nothing gets imported and the following message is displayed:

0/X alignment pairs imported into TM. Only duplicates or disconnected segments found

Resolution

From the TM settings in Trados Studio, disable Allow Multiple Values for SourceFile and TargetFile fields
Save the alignment as SDLXLIFF and import this into the translation memory.

Root Cause

This happens when in the translation memory the SourceFile and/or TargetFile field(s) are set with Allow Multiple Values.
