How to re-install RabbitMQ for Trados GroupShare troubleshooting including RabbitMQ management console

000008366 |5/17/2024 1:02 PM
Scope/Environment
Trados GroupShare 2017 SR1 and newer
Symptoms/Context
Sometimes it is necessary to reinstall RabbitMQ due to certain errors with Trados GroupShare.
Resolution
  1. Log in to the Trados GroupShare application server with the Trados GroupShare service account
  2. Remove/Uninstall RabbitMQ Server X.Y (version may change with different Trados GroupShare versions) from Programs and Features.
  3. Remove/Uninstall Erlang OTP X.Y (version may change with different Trados GroupShare versions) from Programs and Features.
  4. Reboot the Virtual Machine (very important!)
  5. Log in with the Trados GroupShare service account again (important!) and stop all SDL Services.
  6. Delete C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\RabbitMQ
  7. Delete C:\Program Files\erl8.1 (version may change in the future)
  8. Install Erlang from C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\Dependencies\otp_win64_19.1.exe - right-click and choose Run as Administrator (NOTE! as we release newer Trados GroupShare versions, the Erlang version we ship with Trados GroupShare may change, please use the one in that folder)
  9. Install C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\Dependencies\rabbitmq-server-3.6.5.exe - right-click and choose Run as Administrator (NOTE! as we release newer Trados GroupShare versions, the RabbitMQ version we ship with Trados GroupShare may change, please use the one in that folder)
  10. Next, we will install the RabbitMQ management plugin. This is optional, but highly recommended and it is also a test that RabbitMQ works and accepts connections - https://www.rabbitmq.com/management.html
  11. Open a Command Prompt window with Run As Administrator.
  12. Run the command: cd "C:\Program Files\RabbitMQ Server\rabbitmq_server-3.6.5\sbin" - adjust if needed if your RabbitMQ is not installed there or the RabbitMQ version is newer
  13. Run the command: rabbitmq-plugins enable rabbitmq_management
  14. Login to the RabbitMQ management plugin in any browser: http://localhost:15672/ . By default, the user guest with password guest is used. Connections with this user can only come from localhost by default and it is an Administrator. If the login there works it means the RabbitMQ service is running properly and it can accept connections. NOTE: Sometimes Trados GroupShare is configured to access RabbitMQ with a different user than the default guest user. You need to re-create this user in order for Trados GroupShare services to be able to access RabbitMQ (information regarding username and password should be available in the installation protocol).
  15. Restart the Trados GroupShare services.
Root Cause
Various errors may need this. RabbitMQ has extensive documentation on their website, so if you want to dig deeper or understand certain aspects about it, please go to:
