"Structure tag <element_name> was found inside inline not translatable tag code. Please ensure only inline tags are defined as children of inline not translatable tags." error when working with HTML files in Trados Studio

000009298 |12/4/2022 8:32 PM
Scope/Environment
Trados Studio 2017
Trados Studio 2019
WorldServer
Symptoms/Context
You are trying to open an HTM or HTML file in Trados Studio, and this error message appears:

Structure tag <element_name> was found inside inline not translatable tag code. Please ensure only inline tags are defined as children of inline not translatable tags.

The same error will appear  as Auto error at Segment Asset in WorldServer.
Resolution
In order to address this issue, you have to:
  1. Go to File > Options > File Types > HTML 5 > Parser (in WorldServer, go to Management > Linguistic Tool Setup > File Types and open the HTML 5 File Type)
  2. Identify the <element_name> mentioned in the error message
  3. Select the element and click on Edit
  4. In this window, change the Tag Type setting to Inline (Structure is the default setting) and press OK
You should now be able to open the HTML document in Trados Studio. In WorldServer, complete the Autoerror for the segmentation to be re-done.

In Trados Studio 2022 please create a new HTML file type that is based on the improved HTML v2 filter.
Root Cause
Trados Studio's HTML File Types (also used in WorldServer) come with a set of recommended setting for the elements it has to process. However, in certain situations the files you have to work with do not comply with these default settings, so they have to be modified.
