Scope/Environment
Trados GroupShare 2017
Symptoms/Context
When trying to import specific .tmx files in Trados GroupShare, the import might fail. The following message is displayed in the Trados GroupShare WebUI, in the Background Tasks tab:

"Error: System - Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_#AF9A31529A52D0AC8794105'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.@tuContexts'. The duplicate key value is (c94ed7c7-86ee-4ecb-82be-ebddd45f4b22, 5521373009, 1708937109). The data for table-valued parameter "@tuContexts" doesn't conform to the table type of the parameter. The statement has been terminated. (details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK#AF9A315_29A52D0AC8794105'. Resolution

To be able to import the .tmx file into the Translation Memory, there are 3 possible workarounds.

Workaround 1 :

  1. Import the .tmx file in Trados Studio
  2. While in the Translation Memories tab, edit a segment and save the changes
  3. Export the .tmx file
  4. Try the import again in/on Trados GroupShare

Workaround 2:

  1. Import the .tmx file in Trados Studio
  2. Export the .tmx file from Trados Studio
  3. Try the import again in/on Trados GroupShare
Important: if the exported TMX cannot be imported on Trados GroupShare try installing Trados Studio 2021/2022 and repeat the steps from this workaround.

Workaround 3:

  1.  While in the Trados GroupShare WebUI, go to Resources
  2.  Select the Language Resource Template tab
  3.  Create a Language Resource Template from the New Language Template button, and the only change that needs to be made on it is to select the Source language as the same as the one from the problematic .tmx file
  4.  Name the Language Resource Template, select a Location for it and click the Finish button
  5. Create a new Translation Memory from the Translation Memories menu located under the Resources tab
  6. While selecting the Source/Target details, the Translation Memory location on the server, open the Language Resource Field and select the Language Resource Template created at step 4, using the Use Template option
  7. Click the Finish button
  8. Import the problematic .tmx file into the newly created Translation Memory, by selecting the check box in from of it and then the Import Into option

!!!Attention!!! Another workaround is to update your Trados GroupShare 2017 Application server instance to Trados GroupShare 2020.

Root Cause
This was a defect in the Trados GroupShare 2017 versions, and the defect is already fixed in Trados  GroupShare 2020. The defect ID is logged under CRQ-14950.
