Project list empty after restarting Trados Studio

000018055 |9/16/2024 9:25 AM
Scope/Environment
Trados Studio 2024
Trados Studio 2022
Trados Studio 2021
Trados Studio 2019
Trados Studio 2017
Symptoms/Context
You have a number of open projects in your project list, but each time Trados Studio is restarted, the project list is cleared. There are no open projects anymore.
Resolution
Step 1:

Make sure the location where your projects are saved is accessible before starting Trados Studio. If these are saved on a network drive, for example, in case there is no connection to the drive when starting the application, the projects will not be found and will therefore be deleted from the list.

Step 2:

If the location is accessible, check the file path and user name in the "Sdl.ProjectApi.xml" located here:
  • Trados Studio 2024: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18
  • Trados Studio 2022: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio17
  • Trados Studio 2021: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16
  • Trados Studio 2019: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\ProjectApi\15.1.0.0
  • Trados Studio 2017: C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\ProjectApi\14.0.0.0
Make sure the file contains the exact location where the "projects.xml" (the system file containing information about open projects) is saved. By default it is saved under the following path:

C:\Users\%UserName%\Documents\Studio 20XX\Projects

NOTE: The file path may be different, depending on where Trados Studio was installed (e.g. if OneDrive is in use or if you are working in a Citrix environment).

Also check that the user name matches the Windows user name.
Root Cause
Location not accessible or incorrect information in "Sdl.ProjectApi.xml" system file.
