Multiterm Online
Symptoms/Context
A Customer want to ad a Cross-Reference or a Hyperlink for a Term in Multiterm Online.

Resolution
To be able to add a Cross-Reference or a Hyperlink for a Term is to use Multiterm Desktop for this task.

Adding cross-references

A cross-reference provides a Hyperlink between the text of a descriptive field in one entry and the term of another entry in the same termbase. You can create Cross-References in descriptive fields where the field content is text only.

Before you begin

  • Carry out a search to find the entry that requires a cross-reference. Select the relevant term in the Hit List to open the corresponding entry in the entry pane.
  • Choose a layout that includes distinctive formatting for cross-reference text. This will make your cross-references clearly visible in the entry pane.

About this task

In the termbase definition, text-only fields have the field type Text. It is not possible to create a Cross-References in descriptive fields where the field content consists of picklist values, numeric data or multimedia files.

Procedure

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Select Home > Edit from the menu.
    • Right-click the term and select Edit.
Trados MultiTerm switches to edit mode. The entry structure reflects the termbase definition or those parts of it that are available according to the settings defined in the currently selected layout or input model.
  2. Select the text for which you want to create a Cross-References. The Cross-References text must belong to a text field, and the editing box must remain closed as you select the text.
  3. Right-click to open the Manage a Cross-References dialog.
  4. Select the type of Cross-References you want from the choices on the left-hand side of the dialog:
    • Term
      1. Select a language from the Language list.
      2. Enter search text in the To Term box.
      3. Select Search.
      4. Select the term to link to in the Hitlist.
      5. Select Create.
      6. Select Home > Save from the menu to be able to test your changes.
      7. To cancel the changes, select Home > Cancel from the menu.
    • Entry Number
      1. Enter a valid entry ID number in the To Entry box.
      2. Select Create.
      3. Select Home > Save from the menu to be able to test your changes.
      4. To cancel the changes, select Home > Cancel from the menu.
    • Hyperlink
      1. Enter the URL of the web page in the To URL box.
      2. Select Create.
      3. Select Home > Save from the menu to be able to test your changes.
      4. To cancel the changes, select Home > Cancel from the menu.
Root Cause
There is no option in Multiterm Online to add a Cross-References or a Hyperlink for Terms at the moment.
This is a known defect, logged with our Development team under ID CRQ-30859. This should be fixed in an upcoming Trados GroupShare/Multiterm Online release.
