Trados Studio does not natively support the .ildoc filetype.
To use .ildoc files within Trados Studio, several workarounds are possible:
Workaround 1 Use the Studio Compatibility Pack -> this provides access to some legacy software, which can parse QuickSilver files
- Install the Trados Compatibility and Migration Power Pack for the Trados Studio version you have. This can be downloaded through the RWS Private Appstore within Trados Studio 2021 or 2022 ( https://appstore.rws.com/plugin/102/)
- After the compatibility pack is installed, open Studio and go to File > Legacy DTP Formats > Prepare QuickSIlver Files (this will open S-Tagger, the app needed to convert the .ildoc files)
- From here, you can convert the .ildoc files to .ttx documents that can be opened in Trados Studio, translated and then converted back to their native format using again S-Tagger
Possible issues when opening S-Tagger: - S-Tagger might not start. This happens because S-Tagger needs Visual C++ 2005 which might not be installed on the computer. The solution for this problem is to install this component from Microsoft (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347) - The file conversion to .ttx, or back conversion from .ttx to .ildoc might fail during process. As the S-Tagger is no longer maintained, there is no solution that support teams can provide for this issue.
Workaround 2 Export the .ildoc files in a Trados Studio supported file-type format. QuickSilver can output documents in multiple formats, like XML or HTML which are fully supported by Trados Studio.
Workaround 3 Contact RWS Professional Services (PS) department, via your RWS Account Manager. PS can create a fully customized solution (.ildoc filter) for you. (Please note that this involves additional time & monetary resources). |
