Trados GroupShare - Translation Memories added to a GroupShare template through the Web UI are auto checked for update by default.

Scope/Environment
Trados GroupShare 2020 CU8
Symptoms/Context
Since the release of Trados GroupShare 2020 CU8, it is allowed to add GroupShare Translation Memories to an existing template, which was not possible with Trados GroupShare 2020 CU7 and earlier versions.

However, the Translation Memories (TMs) which are added to the template through the Web-UI are automatically checked for update (when creating a project based on a template which has such TMs added from the Web-UI) and there is no option to disable this from the Web UI.

Now that this is possible, some users may be tempted to use the feature to update their GroupShare templates which are used in the Helix-GroupShare integration, as the current alternative is very long and cumbersome (update the template offline in Trados Studio, delete the existing GroupShare template, upload the updated template, go to Helix to update the integration settings to link it with the new template).

Note: This might cause issues because the unwanted content can be added to our GroupShare TMs very quickly if such template is used for the Helix-GroupShare integration. If someone adds a Translation Memory through the Web-UI, they will need to systematically open the project in Trados Studio before sending it to translation just to uncheck the upload checkboxes.
Resolution
An enhancement request: CRQ-32967 has been raised with the Engineering team requesting either one of the following options (or both) to avoid issues with this behavior:
  • A fix for TM update to be deactivated by default when TMs are added to a template through the GroupShare Web-UI
  • An “Update” checkbox in the GroupShare Web-UI window where we add TMs to templates, to be able to toggle this on/off directly.
Root Cause
An enhancement request: CRQ-32967 has been raised with the Engineering team.
