Scope/Environment
Tridion Sites
Symptoms/Context
In Sites 9.5 – a Deployer is set to clean-up transport packages from its Binaries folder.

After a large bulk publish there are around 30 1KB “Content” packages (e.g. tcm_0-1097651-66560.Content.zip) that contain no content. and only a transaction XML file containing a COMMIT element

Folder containing a number of Empty Transaction Zips

No references to these publishing transactions in the CM. The assumption is newer transactions overwrote these ones.
Would these packages have been created by the Transport Service in response to the Deployer throttling due to the bulk publishing?
Resolution
  • In CM all publish transactions have a unique id, so they do not overwrite each other
  • Not seeing a particular transaction means that it was deleted from Publish Queue
  • Transport package indeed being sent to the mentioned location on Deloyer side by Transport service when the transaction starts, then while executing the transaction files in \Binaries related to that transaction are updated multiple times and eventually should be deleted after finishing the transaction
  • It is known that these files are sometimes left behind, indeed this is happening more often on bulk publishing
  • It is safe to delete files related to finished transactions
