Trados Studio 2022 SR2 and 2024 - When opening a WSXZ package with Link to WS (Server) TM in Studio 2022 SR2 and 2024, Studio wants to connect to the Server TM while opening the package AND it asks for credentials again instead of remembering them as

Symptoms/Context

This is related to WSXZ packages exported from WorldServer using the export option Link only or Content and Link (in the Classic User Interface) and the various options with Include link in the Modern User Interface are handled starting from version 2022 SR2.

This is how to reproduce and see the difference between the behaviour when opening such a WSXZ package in Trados Studio 2021 and in Trados Studio 2022/2024:

1- Open a WSXZ package exported from WorldServer with the option Link Only or Link and Content in Trados Studio 2021

2- The package will open fine. Once opened, go into the Studio (WorldServer) project and open the file to be translated.

3- When opening the file, if it is the first time you receive such a package, you will be asked for credentials to connect to the WorldServer TM or TM Group. Enter your username and password. After a couple of seconds, the file will be opened in the Editor. You are now connected to the WorldServer (Server) TM.

4- Now open a second WSXZ package exported from the same WorldServer environment with the option Link Only or Content and Link in Trados Studio 2021.

5- Once opened, go into the Studio (WorldServer) project and open the file to be translated. This time, the file will open directly while connecting to the WorldServer (server) TM. You will not be asked again for your credentials. Trados Studio 2021 “remembers” your credentials from your previous login.

6- Now repeat this test (steps 1-5) in Trados Studio 2022 SR2 and/or Trados Studio 2024. You will notice that you will be asked for the credentials already while opening the WSXZ package instead of when opening the project file as in Studio 2021. This is already a problem since it delays the package opening significantly because it attempts to connect to the WorldServer (Server) TM while opening. This means that opening such a WSXZ package can take longer, depending on the network speed and the number of TMs the WorldServer (server) TM connection needs to load.

Moreover, when you - later on - open another package coming from the same environment, you will be asked again for the credentials. You will be asked for credentials whenever you open a new WSXZ package containing a link to the WorldServer (Server) TM. Trados Studio 2022 SR2 and Studio 2024 do not “remember” the credentials previously entered as was the case in earlier Trados Studio versions.

So there are two issues here:

1- The fact that Trados Studio 2022/2024 attempts to connect to the WorldServer (Server) TM while opening the package instead of when the actual translation starts, meaning when the bilingual file is opened in the Editor. This leads to a delay in opening the WSXZ package due to the connection to the Worldserver (server) TM and the login process.

2- Trados Studio 2022 and 2024 do not remember the credentials from the first time they were entered. This was the case in earlier Trados Studio versions.

Resolution

The issue has been fixed in Trados Studio 2022 SR2. Follow these steps:

1- Close Trados Studio 2022 SR2
2- Go to the RWS App Store and the WorldServer Compatibility Pack for Trados Studio page
3- Click on Download
4- In the Download App window, in the scroll-down menu, select Trados Studio 2022 (SR2), 17.2.11.2002, agree to the Terms and Conditions and click on Download

5- A zip file called WorldServer Compatibility Pack for Trados Studio.zip will be downloaded
6- Find the downloaded ZIP file on your computer and extract it. You will find that it contains the installer WorldServerComponents.msi
7- Double-click on the WorldServerComponents.msi file to install it. Wait until the installation is completed. Your existing version of the WorldServer component will be removed and replaced automatically by this new version.
8- You will be prompted to restart your computer for this change to take effect. Please do so.
9- Open again Trados Studio 2022 SR2 and resume your work

After installing the new WorldServer component, the connection to the WorldServer (server) TM will only occur when you open the files to be translated, not while opening the WSXZ package, just like in previous Trados Studio versions. Additionally, Trados Studio will remember your WorldServer (server) TM login credentials if you have entered them previously.

Workaround in Trados Studio 2024:

While the issue is resolved for Trados Studio 2022 SR 2, it is not resolved yet for Trados Studio 2024. This workaround should help you.

Export your WSXZ package without including the link to the WorldServer TM. For instance, select the option Use cached Project TM (default), Create Project TM or SDLXLIFF File only (no Project TM). In the Classic User Interface, select Content as an export option.

These options do not include the link to the WorldServer (server) TM, but you can still connect to it if needed.

Once your WSXZ package has opened, select the corresponding WorldServer (Studio) project and go to the Project Settings. From here, follow the steps in this article to add a connection to the WorldServer (Server) TM:

How to add a WorldServer TM connection to a WorldServer project in Trados Studio

Root Cause
This issue is related to the WorldServer Components associated with Trados Studio 2022 SR2 and Trados Studio 2024. The issue has been filed as defect CRQ-40082.
