WorldServer - IDML file fails at 'Save" with error 'Multiple tags with the same ID '976' have different sub-segment properties'

000023031 |2/4/2025 10:57 AM
Scope/Environment
WorldServer
Symptoms/Context
We have translated an IDML file. When we try to save it in Browser Workbench, export it to a WSXZ package or when the task reaches a Save or Save target step, it fails with the error:

Completed Save step of task 1 in time [00:00:00] on engine [xxxxx:clone#929053365:engine#1] with result Error.
Execution output: Error while executing automatic action: com.idiominc.wssdk.WSRuntimeException com.idiominc.ws.WSRuntimeException
(covers com.idiominc.ws.ais.AISException (covers com.idiominc.wssdk.asset.WSAssetSegmentationException:
Internal error: Multiple tags with the same ID '976' have different sub-segment properties ))

Note: the ID in the error will vary.

The same error appears when exporting the task to WSXZ format.
Resolution

Reason for the Error: The error occurs when a translator or reviewer adds tags to one of the target segments that are not present in the source segment, causing duplication or a general discrepancy. IDML is a file format that is highly sensitive to formatting issues. Therefore, it is crucial that formatting tags in the target segments match those in the source.

Fixing the Error:

  1. Small File:

    • Open the file in Browser Workbench.

    • Identify and correct the added placeholders/tags in one or more segments.

  2. Large File:

    • Export the task in XLIFF format instead of WSXZ format to avoid export errors.

    • Open the exported XLIFF in Trados Studio.

    • Run a tag verification in Studio. This will highlight tag issues, especially added or removed tags.

    • Fix the tag issues in Studio, or refer to the affected segments displayed in Studio and fix them directly in Browser Workbench.

After Fixing the Segments:

  • Save the file in Browser Workbench without errors.

  • If the task remains in Autoerror at the Save or Save target step, complete the error.
