Question

Is there an "official" maximum size limit for file upload?
Answer

The current guidance about file size restrictions is as follows:
  • For projects created from the Customer Portal, there is a limit of 1GB per file.
  • For projects created directly via the Language Cloud TMS interface, there is a total limit of 2GB per project. Within this 2GB limit, there are no file size limits for each file.
  • From a workflow perspective, files with more than 100.000 segments will not process and spawn an error task.
Keep in mind that depending on a user's bandwidth, uploads below these sizes may still timeout. For example, the Customer Portal has a 15-minute upload timeout, so large uploads may fail for a user with a slow/bad internet connection.

Instances such as this should be handled as support cases for RWS Support to reproduce and/or check this with individuals encountering this issue.
If customers have a regular requirement to work with large files of these sizes, we recommend exploring opportunities to revert to uploading via connectors rather than manual upload.
